Maryland Birthday Rule – Open Enrollment Period Effective 07/01/23
A new Open Enrollment period is available in Maryland effective July 1, 2023. Medicare supplement applications for eligible policyholders in Maryland can be taken starting July 1. See below for details on eligibility requirements for the state:
- Annual Open Enrollment lasting 30 days, beginning first day of an individual’s birthday month ending 30 days from that date, during which time an individual may replace any Medicare supplement policy with a policy of equal or lesser benefits.
- Coverage will not be made effective prior to the individual’s birthday or beyond 60 days from the application date.
- Documentation should be included verifying plan information when submitting applications.
- Compensation will be paid as Guaranteed Issue.
- Eligible policyholders will receive a letter in the mail informing them about this new enrollment period. These letters will begin going out next week.
- Applications can be taken July 1.
