New Regulation Changes for Nebraska and Indiana Effective 01/01/2025
New regulations in Nebraska and Indiana will be soon implemented, affecting Medicare supplement, as detailed below.
A new regulation for Nebraska goes into effect January 1, 2025. This regulation is regarding the supply coverage for individuals under age 65 by reason of disability or end-stage renal disease.
- Based on Nebraska LB 852, Section 5, effective January 1, 2025 an individual under age 65 who is eligible for Medicare due to disability or medically confirmed end state renal disease shall be subject to the same open enrollment rules applicable to an individual who is age 65 and eligible for a Medicare supplement policy or certificate beginning on the first day of the first month that the individual turns age 65.
- We will make available Plan A for these under age 65 individuals that qualify.
A new regulation for Indiana goes into effect January 1, 2025. This regulation impacts plans for those under age 65 and creates a new Open Enrollment period for those who may have been eligible previously, please read on for details.
- Starting January 1, 2025, all plans will be available for Under Age 65 individuals including those with End-Stage Renal Disease. Previously, only Plan A was available.
- Indiana also created a Special Open Enrollment (OE) period for individuals who were eligible prior to January 1, 2025, due to disability or who have been medically-determined to have End-State Renal disease. This new OE period starts January 1st and ends on June 31st. Applications can be submitted for this starting January 1st.
The Underwriting Guidelines have been updated with this information and loaded into Sales Professional Access. System changes will be installed by January 1, 2025.
