New Life Training Requirements Effective 01/01/2025 for California Licensees
New training requirements go into effect Jan. 1, 2025 for producers selling certain life insurance and annuity products in California. You can find the approved courses on the California Department of Insurance website.
Note:
- Applications submitted on or after the training effective dates will be rejected if applicable training requirements are not satisfied.
- There is no reciprocity. NAIC and other state training requirements will not satisfy these requirements for non-residents or residents.
Life Insurance
Effective Jan. 1, 2025:
- Producers who obtained their California life license on or after Jan. 1, 2024 or any newly licensed producers, must complete a new, four-credit-hour training course prior to any solicitation or sale of any permanent life insurance policy.
- This requirement applies to any application submission for a MassMutual whole life, universal life, variable life, LTC-life hybrid, Worksite, BOLI, or COLI product, on or after Jan. 1, 2025.
- Producers licensed in California prior to Jan. 1, 2024 are exempt from this training requirement.
- This requirement does not apply to sales of MassMutual term policies.
- Producers selling variable life insurance must take a new, two-credit-hour variable life training course prior to their next license renewal and subsequent renewals.
